Cloud Tank Designer (CTD)

Build parametric 3D storage tank models in your browser — shell courses, floor, roof, nozzles, ladders, and platforms — with revision control and secure sharing.

Overview

Cloud Tank Designer (CTD) is a browser-based parametric 3D storage tank modeller. Rather than placing individual nodes and elements, you define a tank by its overall parameters — diameter, stacked shell courses, floor type, and roof type — and EngCoSuite builds the 3D geometry for you.

You can then place nozzles, manways, ladders, and platforms directly on the 3D model. Every design is revision controlled and can be shared as a read-only viewer link.

Access & Permissions

  • CTD files belong to a project. Anyone with access to the project who can edit it can create and modify CTD files.
  • The file is locked while a review workflow is active — no edits are allowed until the workflow is approved or cancelled.
  • Older revisions open in read-only mode; they can never be edited.
  • Shared links (7-day expiry) open in a read-only viewer with all editing controls hidden.

Getting Started

  1. Open your project and click Add CTD.
  2. Enter a name, description, and optional client file number.
  3. The 3D editor opens with a starter tank you can adjust.
  4. Set your tank properties and add components (next sections), then click Save — there is no auto-save.

Tank Properties

Shell

  • Set the overall diameter, then add shell courses from the bottom up — each with its own height and thickness.
  • Double-click any course in the 3D view to edit or delete it.

Floor & Roof

  • Floor: Flat, Coned Up, or Coned Down.
  • Roof: Fixed Cone, Fixed Dome, External Floating, or Internal Floating (a fixed cone/dome housing over an internal floating deck).
  • Open Tank Properties from the toolbar, or double-click the floor/roof in the 3D view, to change these at any time.

Nozzles, Ladders & Platforms

Nozzles & manways

  • Click Add Component and choose the Nozzle tab.
  • Set a tag, type (Nozzle or Manway), location (Shell, Roof, or Floor), size, elevation, angular position, and projection.
  • Double-click any nozzle in the 3D view to edit or delete it.

Ladders & platforms

  • Ladders: choose Caged Straight or Spiral, set the angular position and elevation range, with an optional handrail.
  • Platforms: set elevation, width, and the angular span, with an optional handrail.

Saving Your Work

  • Click Save to write the model to disk and capture a screenshot thumbnail.
  • Auto-save is not enabled — save manually and regularly to preserve your work.

Revisions

Alpha mode (default)

  • New designs start at Rev A. Create the next revision (A → B → C → ... → Z → AA → AB) to snapshot the current file.

Promote to numeric

  • When ready for formal issuance, promote the alpha revision to numeric mode to create Rev 0, then 1, 2, 3…

Sharing

  • Click Send on the CTD list to generate a signed URL with a 7-day expiry.
  • The link opens in a read-only viewer with all editing tools hidden — no account required for the recipient.
