Project Search

Find any valve tag, line number or equipment number across an entire project in one go — no matter which document type mentions it.

Overview

Project Search is a search box at the top of every project page. Type a tag or identifier — a valve tag like XV-101, a line number like 100-P-05, or an equipment number like TK-301 — and EngCoSuite looks inside every document in that project and shows you exactly which documents mention it, where, and in what field.

Matching is a case-insensitive substring search — partial numbers work (XV-1 finds XV-101).
The latest revision of each document is searched.
Results are grouped by document type with the matching field shown for context, so you can see why a document matched before opening it.

Access & Permissions

Search follows your normal project access — if you can open the project, you can search it.
Only document types your organisation's plan includes are searched (for example, a plan without Tanks won't scan tank files).
Deactivated documents are searched but flagged as deactivated in the results.
No setup is required — there is nothing to enable per project.

Running a Search

Open the project from Projects.
Type your identifier into the search box at the top of the project page and click Search (or press Enter).
The results page opens with its own search box at the top, so you can refine the query without going back.
Queries need at least 2 characters; shorter queries are rejected.
To open a document from the results, click its name — it opens in a new tab so your results stay put.

What Gets Searched

Every document's name, filename and client file number are always searched, plus the content listed below:

Note: 3D piping models (CPD) are not included in project search, and nozzle tags on tanks are deliberately excluded — nozzle tags aren't unique identifiers within a project.

Reading Results

A summary line tells you how many documents matched out of how many were searched: “Found in 3 documents across 2 types (searched 41 documents, latest revisions).”
Matches are grouped under a heading per document type with a count badge. Lists additionally show their list type (e.g. Line List) and datasheets show their component type.
Each result shows the document name, its current revision (Rev B), and up to 8 matching contexts, each formatted as Field: value with your search term highlighted.
If a document matches in many places, the first 8 contexts are shown.
Very long values are trimmed to a window around the first match (…).
Deactivated documents appear with a red tint and a Deactivated badge.

Troubleshooting

Issue	What to do
No results for a tag you know exists	Check spelling, try a shorter part of the number (e.g. `-P-05` instead of the full line number), and remember only the latest revision is searched — the tag may have been removed in the current revision.
“Please enter at least 2 characters.”	Single-character queries aren't allowed — they would match nearly everything.
A document type never appears	Only document types included in your organisation's plan are searched.
A nozzle tag doesn't match a tank	Deliberate behaviour — only the tank's own equipment tag is searchable.
An old revision isn't found	Search covers the latest revision of each document only.

FAQ

Is the search case-sensitive?

No. xv-101, XV-101 and Xv-101 all match.

Can I search multiple projects at once?

No — search is scoped to the project whose page you searched from. Open another project to search it.

Does it search PDF exports or emails?

No — it searches the live document content held in EngCoSuite, which is also more current than any export.

Why does a deactivated document still show up?

Deactivated documents are kept (flagged red) so you don't lose track of retired documents that still reference a tag.
